District 9 supports youth camp upgrade

Jan 20, 2022

Camp Klahanie in Goderich is getting a partial makeover thanks to a $4,000 grant in 2020 from District 9 Huron-Perth.

The camp, purchased in 2013 by the Goderich Lions Club, offers space at the lowest rates possible to the Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, church groups and other youth groups. The cost is just $8 per day per person, making it far more affordable than regular camp fees.

The RTOERO donation will pay for two new picnic tables, outdoor bench seats, a new bunkie, a walkway between the kitchen and washrooms, and a share of utilities

“This will help the Lions Club to keep the camp going strong, so youth can have a place for fun and learning,” says Gary Jewitt, president, District 9 Huron-Perth. “The goal is to give young people memorable experiences, all in safe and comfortable surroundings.”

The District 9 funding is part of RTOERO’s annual Community Grants program. Districts apply for projects that support a local program. Up to $4,000 per project is available.
